If your child has Chinese heritage and was born in the U.S., and needs to apply for a Chinese visa, here is a simplified guide and a list of necessary materials:

1. Passport: Make sure the child’s passport is valid for at least six more months and has at least one blank visa page. You need to provide both the original passport and a photocopy of the passport information page.

2. Visa application form and photo: Complete the “People’s Republic of China Visa Application Form” and attach a recent color passport photo with a light background. One of the parents can fill out and sign the form.

3. Birth certificate: Provide both the original and a photocopy of the child’s birth certificate.

4. Parents’ identification: Provide photocopies of both parents’ passports and U.S. permanent resident cards (if applicable).

5. Invitation materials: If the application is based on a specific visit purpose, you may need to provide related invitation materials.

6. Additional materials: Depending on the consular officer’s request, you may need to provide other relevant materials.

7. Reapplication: If the child has previously obtained a Chinese visa, you do not need to resubmit the birth certificate and parents’ identification; however, you must submit a photocopy of the previous visa.

Process for a child in the U.S. to apply for a Chinese visa:

  • Children usually do not need to submit the application in person; parents can submit on their behalf.
  • Depending on your location, submit the application to the respective Chinese embassy or consulate.
  • No appointment is necessary, but submissions cannot be made by mail.

Processing time and fees:

  • The standard processing time is 4 business days.
  • Expedited service requires 2-3 business days and incurs an additional fee.
  • Urgent service allows for the visa to be obtained on the same day of application, with an extra fee.

Ensure all submitted materials are true and complete. Incomplete or inaccurate information may cause delays or denial of the visa application. Follow the latest instructions from the embassy or consulate if there are any changes.
